Where It Started
It started with Shawn's father — a man who believed that honest work and a careful hand could turn any patch of Florida scrub into something worth sitting in. He ran a small landscaping crew out of Central Florida for decades, never chasing growth for its own sake, never cutting corners. His clients became family friends. Their yards became his pride.
He raised his boys the same way he tended a garden — with patience, attention, and the quiet expectation that they'd do things right. Shawn grew up riding in the work truck, learning to tell a live oak from a laurel oak before he learned to drive. The smell of fresh mulch and wet St. Augustine still takes him back to those mornings.
A Father's Standard
What Shawn's father gave him wasn't just a trade — it was a standard. Do the job like the homeowner is watching. Use the right plant for the right spot. Come back and check on it, even when nobody asks you to. That standard became the foundation of everything Southern Oaks is today.

When Shawn launched Southern Oaks Outdoors, it wasn't to start something new — it was to carry forward something old. Just with a bigger vision: full design-build-maintain partnerships for homeowners who want outdoor spaces worthy of the life they're building.
The Next Generation
Now Shawn watches his own son Aiden developing that same eye — noticing the way light hits a property line, asking why this hedge goes here and not there. It's the same curiosity Shawn had at that age, the same instinct his father nurtured in him. Three generations of the same quiet obsession with doing it right.
Today, Southern Oaks serves homeowners across Central Florida who want more than a contractor — they want a partner who'll still be checking on their garden five years from now. Every project starts the way Shawn's father started: a walk through the property, a genuine conversation about the land, and a handshake that means something.
